Previously unseen photographs of the most notorious wedding of the twentieth century have come to light - in a secret album only distributed to the small number of guest’s.

The series of candid photographs from the marriage of Edward VIII to his mistress Wallis Simpson in June 1937 have come to light 80 years after the he sparked a constitutional crisis in Britain.

The intimate photos were taken by Lady Alexandra Metcalfe, wife of Edward's best man Major Edward 'Fruity' Metcalfe, who had assumed the role of unofficial photographer at the simple ceremony.

The private pictures were distributed only to the handful of guest's at the Chateau, and this set was given to W. Cunningham Graham, the British consul at Nante.

They show how Edward's marriage to Wallis Simpson was in stark contrast to the opulent weddings that Royal Family members are usually afforded.

Bellmans auctioneers in Billingshurst, West Sussex are selling the fascinating album on 30th November.
