James Maycock, the "Catch Me If You Can' conman.
A fantasist conman who claimed he was a trained pilot and a Lord with a £1m inheritance has avoided jail for fraud offences.
The crimes of James Maycock were likened to a "Dorset edition of Catch Me If You Can", the 2002 Leonardo DiCaprio film based on the life of Frank Abagnale, who stole millions of dollars by pretending to be a PanAm pilot, a doctor and a prosecutor, when he was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court.
Prosecuting, Mary Aspinall-Miles said he was a fantasist who tried to fund his lifestyle through deception and fraud, lying to businesses and girlfriends over a five-year period.
Maycock, 31, was initially charged with 19 fraud and dishonesty related offences but on the day his trial was due to begin he pleaded guilty to five of the charges.
