Chef Tim Bouget couldn't believe his luck....shaved truffle on a wood fired pizza.

A lucky gardener is thought to have become the first person in Britain to stumble upon an abundant source of the prized black truffle - also known as 'chef's gold'.

Sharp eyed Steve Fletcher (60) was digging around an oak tree at a secret location near Dawlish in Devon, when he discovered a potential goldmine of the edible fungi.

The elusive ingredient is normally only found in wooded areas of France, Italy and Spain, and it's rarity, flavour and aroma make it extremely valuable, with prices reaching £2000 a kilogram.

Mr Fletcher is now keeping the exact location of his untapped source top secret to avoid any opportunistic foragers.

After his find he was unsure what to do so opened his Michelin Guide and contacted his nearest upmarket restaurant - Ode in Shaldon run by head chef Tim Bouget.
