Pictured: This George IV painted wood truncheon has an estimate of £250.

A hard-hitting single owner collection of rare 18th and 19th century police truncheons have emerged for sale.

The over 50 wooden clubs were carried around by constables of the parish in the years before official police forces were founded.

The batons were often beautifully decorated and sometimes stamped or marked to commemorate a notorious public order incident that had previously happened in the parish.
