The barge during the refurbishment.

A 100-year-old barge once used to ship cargo up and down the River Thames has been transformed into a plush four-bedroom house that is now on the market for £450,000.

The 90ft boat was salvaged from the banks of Thames in the 1970s and turned into a floating dormitory for schoolchildren at an outdoor activity centre.

But it has since been given a complete makeover and now looks more like a cosy country cottage than a boat.

The two-storey houseboat runs off mains electricity, has wifi access, electric heating, and hot water, and it also has a reserve water tank stored in its funnel.
And buyers can count the picturesque River Hamble near Southampton, Hants, as their back garden.
