A former First World War radio listening station that played a crucial role in sealing victory for the Allies has gone on the market for £575,000.

Amateur radio pioneer John Bayntun Hippisley set up the revolutionary outpost in 1916 after he began intercepting messages sent between enemy German battleships in the North Sea.

Bayntun was able to listen to U-boat captains talking to one another in clear German - then tell the commanders of Allied destroyers where to find them.

Now 100 years on and boasting five bedrooms, a huge open-plan kitchen, two lounges, a sun room and extensive gardens, Bayntun's 'hut' has gone on the market for the first time in almost 20 years with Bedfords estate agents.
