A Victorian traveller's photo album that features remarkable images of a frozen Niagara Falls has sold for a staggering £162,500 - 81 times its estimate.

Brit Russell Colman, from the famous Colman's Mustard family, captured the scene of well-dressed revellers playing in the snow below the giant Canadian waterfalls in 1885.

Above them is frozen ice where torrents of water would typically crash down.

Due to the velocity of the water Niagara Falls has only ever completely frozen once on record, in 1848.
