A photographer has captured a scurry of rare red squirrels which are thriving thanks to their isolated island life.

Brownsea Island is one of just a handful of spots in England where the endangered red squirrel has not been wiped out by non-native greys.

Amateur photographer Rebecca Cooke visited the island nature reserve in the hopes of spotting one of the russet-coloured beauties but was surprised when she was surrounded by five of them.
Brownsea Island, in Poole Harbour, Dorset, is an internationally important uninhabited nature reserve and it is thought about 250 red squirrels live on the island.
