The fascinating archive of a daredevil World War Two SAS hero which includes his escape knife and diary has been discovered.

Sergeant Reginald George Lilly took part in the Isle of Man TT races and was evacuated from Dunkirk before joining the elite unit in his late 30s.

He parachuted behind enemy lines into the Netherlands in November 1944 to re-supply the Resistance fighters causing mayhem to the German forces.

Sgt Lilly's diary describes numerous close encounters with the enemy, including one where they hid 20 yards away from them.

The collection is tipped to fetch £5,000 when it is sold by Sgt Lilly's stepson at auctioneers Warwick & Warwick.
