The medals of a hero seaman who put out a fire on a First World War battleship with a shell splinter lodged in his abdomen have sold for almost £20,000.<br />

Chief Stoker George Pring was on board HMS Warspite at the infamous Battle of Jutland - the biggest and deadliest naval engagement of the war.<br />

The battleship's steering was knocked out in the action, sending her round in circles 'like a kitten chasing its tail'.
