Head Verger at Salisbury Cathedral, Esther Lycett prepares the three Holy Oils ahead of the Maundy Thursday (6 April), a special service at which clergy and lay ministers from across the Salisbury Diocese gather to renew their ordination vows and reaffirm their commitment as Christ’s ministers.
During the service the Bishop of Salisbury, The Very Revd Stephen Lake will bless the oils before they are taken back to parishes across the Diocese to be used in worship throughout the year.
The three Holy Oils are: Oil for the sick, Oil of baptism and Oil of chrism.
