A cycle lane which is believed to be one of Britain's widest has been slammed by road users who are bemused by its size.<br />

Despite measuring over half as wide as the adjacent road, cyclists have still been spotted using the carriageway instead of the cycle lane.<br />

The cycle way is a whopping 11ft wide, 2ft wider than the vehicle lane which locals say is frequented by heavy goods and emergency vehicles.<br />

Residents on Wimborne Road West in Wimborne, Dorset, were exasperated when they woke one morning to the 'cycle highway' as it has been dubbed by the local council.<br />
<br />
It is part of a major £102 million scheme to make travel more sustainable and reduce congestion across the county but they argue it could have the opposite effect by obstructing traffic.
