Potted History...Tudor mansion with chimneys to die for.
A stunning historic Tudor manor house which was completed when the judge who owned it gave a stay of execution to a prisoner has gone on the market.
Judge Sir William Leighton was looking for a skilled bricklayer to finish off his high status chimney pots during the 16th century construction of Plaish Hall.
He was informed that a prisoner he had just sentanced to death was the best man for the job, and promptly gave the man a stay of execution to complete his prize pots.
Unfortunately for the skilled artisan it was only a short repreive, as on completion the sentance was belatedly carried out.
The historic Grade I listed house in the Shropshire countryside, is now on the market with Strutt & Parker with a guide price of £2million
The site was mentioned in the Domesday Book before being substantially renovated in the 16th century, with parts from that time, including the chimneys, still present.
