The damage report from Sergeants Denys Chapman and Kenneth Leach Beaufighter plane in which it states they were shot 30 times by machine gun and parts of the wing were broken off on landning.

The little-known story of a heroic Second World War pilot and navigator duo who were the real life version of Maverick and Goose from 80s film Top Gun has emerged after more than 70 years.

Sergeants Denys Chapman and Kenneth Leach were both awarded a Distinguished Flying Medal - one of the air force's top awards - for their bravery fighting enemy aircraft in the 1940s.

Unusually, Sergeant Leach got his when Command tried to give a second DFM to Sgt Chapman but he refused and insisted it go to his flying buddy for saving his life.
The rare and important medals are now going up for sale together with Adam Partridge Auctioneers in Macclesfield, Cheshire.
