Plodding on...

Tireless farmer Robert Sampson and his trusty heavy horses keep working the land - despite the oppressive heatwave conditions.

The 66 year-old forgoes the relative comfort of air conditioned tractors to cover his 265-acre Hants farm with six Percheron horses using traditional methods.

He is the fifth generation of his family to adopt ancient farming techniques and plans to pass the farm on to his son, Tom Sampson, when he retires.

Mr Sampson and his wife, Barbara, prefer the old ways and enjoy working with the horses from training them to breeding them.

He adapts his day to deal with the extreme heat by getting up at 5.30am or working late in the evening, while rotating the horses so they are not overworked.
