An antique prototype camera has sold for a record breaking £14.75m (17.28m euros).

The rare 1923 Leica camera owned by Leica inventor Oskar Barnack was expected to fetch £2.5m, but sold for almost five times that estimate with a hammer price of £12.2m (14.4m euros), bringing it to £14.75m with fees.

The Leica 0-Series prototype is one of only 23 produced by the German manufacturer to test the market and only a dozen are known to still exist today.
Barnack used this camera until 1930 when he upgraded to a new model and passed this one on to his son Conrad.
